The 200th anniversary of Schlossgut Diel began with a ceremonial act in the Organ Museum
in Windesheim. Key-speaker of the evening was the Prime Minister of the federal state
Rheinland-Pfalz Kurt Beck who pointed out the importance of Armin Diel for the
German catering trade and the wine industry. Today, he said, it is no longer usual, that
one  would campaign for public causes in the way that Armin Diel has and does
.

Monika and Armin Diel hand over the first bottle of the anniversary
sparkling wine to Prime Minister Beck. -  A 1999er Riesling
from the Dorsheimer Goldloch, the top site of the estate.

The ceremonial act was framed by music played by Albert Schönberger, the organist of the
Mainz Cathedral, on a Bürgy Organ built in 1802. He played master pieces of the time in
which the estate was founded, amongst others Joseph Haydn, Christian Heinrich Rinck,
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Tobias Reiser.

Host Armin Diel, the speakers Michel Prinz zu Salm-Salm, Dr. Friedrich Schmidt,
Heinz-Gert Woschek and Kuno Pieroth as well as the organist of the
Mainz Cathedral, Albert Schönberger.

The Speakers:

Armin Diel

Prime Minister Kurt Beck

Dr. Friedrich Schmidt

Michael Prinz zu Salm-Salm

Heinz-Gert Woschek

Kuno Pieroth

Social highlight of the anniversary was the “culinary castle party”. Huge tents were put up in the courtyard of the estate and in the castle’s garden for the 350 invited guests, but given the nice weather on this gorgeous evening one may not have needed them.

A welcome toast from the magnum bottle:
Especially for the 200th anniversary, the estate made a Riesling sparkling wine from the top site Dorsheimer Goldloch for the first time. It goes without saying that the fermentation took place in the bottle riddled by hand.

Beaming hosts: Monika and Armin Diel welcomed their guests and friends from home and abroad. Star vintner James Vuletic from New Zealand and Justin Quek a celebrated cook from Singapore had the longest trip of all.
